Weekend Preview 27th May

The 1s and 2s both face Gomersal on Saturday, the 3s take on Mayfield away and the 4s are home to Muff Field. Last week saw Jamie Abbott take the record for most Bradford League Second Team wickets as the 2nd XI beat Cleckheaton.

Saturday 27th Baildon 1st XI v Gomersal 1st XI - Jenny Lane @ 12:30 Match Day sponsor: Ash Free A frustrating weekend for the 1st XI last week saw them beaten by both Cleckheaton and Yeadon. On Saturday a decent total of 192 was posted thanks to the efforts of James Ford (38) and Jonny Reynolds (25) at the top of the order then a 77 run partnership between Will Kelly (41) and Joel Newlove (44). Unfortunately the bowling failed to fire with Cleckheaton's opening bat Waleed Akhtar scoring 100 as they chased the total 1 down. On Sunday at Yeadon we looked to be in control as we bowled first and restricted the hosts to 158. Umar Zahoor took 6-38 and is now right up there in the league's highest wicket takers of the season. Support came from Kev McDermott and Stefan Mather as they took a brace each. Jonny Reynolds scored a patient 51 after James Ford was dismissed early in the innings. Will Kelly then came in and pushed the run rate and we looked to be in the driving seat but wickets kept falling and we were left just short.

On Saturday they face a Gomersal side who sit 4th in a very tight league with just 17 points separating 1st and 9th. Kev will be hoping his side can climb up that table with a win. Team: K McDermott, C Reynolds, J Reynolds, M Khan, W Kelly, J Newlove, J Ford, R Athwal, J Marron-Toop, U Zahoor, C Malik.

Gomersal 2nd XI v Baildon 2nd XI - Gomersal CC @ 12:30 Match Day sponsor: Jamie Abbott A dominant bowling performance last week led to a comfortable win against Cleckheaton. Jamie Abbott took 4-22 and a hat-trick while Sam Kelly and Josh Capper got two each and Haris and Stefan one. A slightly shaky batting innings eventually ended with George Barker top scorer with 27 as the team made the target 6 down.

This week they take on Gomersal as they look to close the gap to the top 2 in the hunt for promotion. Team: S McDermott, G Barker, J Abbott, H Brook-Dobson, S Wilkinson, J Capper, S Mather, H Hussain, M Khan, L Turner, J Denison

Mayfield 1st XI v Baildon 3rd XI - Mayfield Terrace @ 13:30 A low scoring game at home against Pudsey St Lawrence saw the bowling win out as the 3s won. Posting 115 mainly thanks to the efforts of Jamie Denison (34) and James Butterfield (23) against some good bowling. When our young attack came to bowl it was Sam Miller (3-25) and Will Baker (4-21) who came to the fore as they found the right length to bowl early on. Will in particular found a lot of movement off the seam while Sam bowled quickly and accurately to extract both openers.

This week Tom Dixon and Parth Sunil come back in as they both scored 50s at the same ground last week for the 4s. They'll be hoping for a repeat this week in a tie against Mayfield that is often a close game. We currently sit equal on points with them and with strong bowling and batting would hope to take a lead. Team: D Hodgson, J Hannan, P Sunil, P Hannan, T Pickles, L Smalley, D Metcalfe, S Miller, D Grimmitt, D Bell, T Dixon

Baildon 4th XI v Muff Field 2nd XI - Sandal School @ 13:30 A high scoring thriller last Saturday saw the 4s post 236 runs mostly thanks to Tom Dixon at the top. He scored 81 from just 53 balls to get the innings off to a flier. Parth Sunil also hit 50 and Simon Bullock fell LBW just short on 47. In his first bowl for some time Dan Metcalfe took 3 wickets and Tim Joy 4 as Mayfield's deep batting line up scored swiftly throughout but eventually fell for 218.

They face Muff Field who are currently bottom of the league so should expect to beat them but with captain Andy Norton and key bowler Tim Joy missing it won't be a cake walk. Team: Z Ahmed, A Ahmed, M Hussain, F McCall, D Barber, F Ahmed, B Fawkes, L Modhwadia, T Allerton, L Allerton, TBC.
