With less than a month until the scheduled start of the 2021 season, we have a few updates to keep everyone informed about what's going on. . .
Annual General Meeting
The delayed AGM will take place this Monday (22nd March) at 7.30pm via Zoom. We would encourage all members to attend. If you haven't received an invite please email baildoncricketclub@gmail.com
Cheltenham Preview Night
Thank you to everyone who supported this annual fundraiser, we made around £1,000 which will go towards the running of the club.
New nets
When you do get a chance to come to Jenny Lane you will see that we have invested in our 2 lane nets next to the scoreboard. This has massively improved our facilities and created a more inclusive environment for everyone wanting to train.
Cricket
We hope to begin on Saturday 17th April with the 4th team starting a week later. This is of course dependent on government guidelines. The likelihood is that the same restrictions as last year being in place (changing rooms closed, arrive in your kit, breaks to disinfect etc.).
On the senior teams front we have again invested in youth with 3 aged 18 or under players in the first team as Hassan Shakoor, Sam Kelly and Will Kelly have again been given important roles. We have added additional quality to the side with opening batsman Kevin McDermott arriving from Buttershaw St Pauls, seam bowler Joel Fothergill signing from Oxenhope and finally Jack Hainsworth returning after taking a break in 2020. Players leaving the club are Louie Stronach, Mohammad Khuzaifa and Will Grace, we wish them well at their new clubs.
The second team will again balance youth with experience and welcome back to the club Stefan Mather who has re-signed from Thackley. With the likelihood of a large squad at his disposal captain Darren Wilson will want to continue the progress we saw in 2020.
The third team have a new captain in David Hodgson who has been a consistent run maker at the top of the order for the past couple of seasons and like the second team will aim to find the right blend of younger and older players.
The fourth team really progressed in 2020 and will aim to continue this upward momentum in 2021. Details are being finalised around who will lead the team.
The junior section will again be strong with teams from Under 9s all the way through to Under 18s. We will also be running All Stars. Friday night training nights will hopefully be well attended.
Annual Subscriptions
We are wanting to get as many members onto the £6 monthly Direct Debit as possible to keep things simple. If you are already set up then great, if you cancelled a Direct Debit then you won't be eligible for selection until this is set up again. Members who pay directly to the junior section will not be required to pay annual subscriptions to the senior section. Paid players in the first team will have their susbcriptions will have this deducted from any payments made during the season. For details on how to set up a Direct Debit please email baildoncricketclub@gmail.com
Fundraisers
Again depending on guidelines we are aiming to run popular Beer & Gin Festival in late July and our Golf Day (date to be confirmed). If you are interested in getting involved or sponsoring then please get in touch.
Volunteers
We are always on the lookout for volunteers as there will be a huge skillset amongst our membership much of which we will be unaware of. Things to get involved with are:
Scorers
Umpires
Website administration
Fundraising coordination
First Aid
Coaching
Helping with the preparation of pitches
General handyperson around the ground/s
Again please email baildoncricketclub@gmail.com if this is of interest.
