Does anyone want to be on the honours boards?
Sam Holmes who top scored for the club with 44* for the 3rd XI against Muff Field
For the first time since we started publishing the club honours boards, a week has gone by with no new entries! Perhaps we would have seen some contenders in the first round of the Priestley Cup but sadly our opponents Wrenthorpe were not able to raise a team.
Of our three teams in action this weekend (the 4th XI had a bye), only the 3rd XI tasted victory. On a fast surface at Belmont, Muff Field were brought back down to earth after topping 300+ in the first weekend of the season, as our four pronged attack dismissed them for 107. Paul Hannam (3 for 36), Dan Metcalfe (3 for 26) and Josh Capper (3 for 30) were the chief tormentors. In reply Tawseef Ahmed (29) got us off to another quick start before Sam Holmes (44*) and Simon Bullock (20*) put on an unbroken partnership of 56 to take us over the line.
At Jenny Lane our 1st XI went down to an eight wicket defeat against Jer Lane. After passing 300 last week against Morley, our batters just couldn't kick on from a number of promising starts, with James Ford (36) and Will Kelly (31) being the top scorers. Our total of 153 was never going to be enough and with Hashim Wajid (51*) top-scoring for the day, our total was passed in 40 overs. One bright spot for the day was returnee Mounam Ejaz taking a wicket with his first ball.
Our 2nd XI travelled to Cleckheaton and came up against an in-form Elliot Hallas who collected the figures of 8 for 23 in 13 overs including 8 maidens. In the face of this spell only Simon Mcdermott was able to put up any resistance with 35. Our 91 all out was knocked off by the opposition in 15 overs for the loss of 4 wickets, with Sam Kelly and Brett Kinsey both picking up two wickets.
Let's hope for a better set of results next weekend and a few more 50s, 100s and 5 fors!
