Matchday Notes - Saturday 14th September

September 13, 2019

Chairman Ashley Free talks through the final weekend and looks back over the season.

The first team host Morley for our final game of the season and I hope it's an entertaining match. With Bankfoot unlikely to be granted entry into the Premier Division Morley will be promoted and victory should see them crowned champions.

When we look back at the season it will be definitely a case of what might have been, I look at the sloppy defeats at home to Hartshead Moor and at an understrength Bankfoot as the reasons we aren't in the hunt for promotion going into the final game.

Looking at the statistics we have been too reliant on too few to get us out of games and that is why we will finish in mid table. The real standout has been our departing overseas Blair Oakley who has been absolutely outstanding with bat and ball. We wish Blair every success in the future and I'll be keeping an eye on his performances back in Oz.

2020 will bring about renewed optimism and we are already in the process of speaking to potential new recruits who will improve the squad. The seam bowling ranks need freshening up (Blair will be a hard act to follow!) as well as more stability within the batting (how many times were we 40-3?).

Further down the club the second team following back to back promotions were unable to stave off relegation despite some impressive performances along the way. Having seen Hanging Heaton at Jenny Lane last weekend top heavy on first team experience it's no surprise that we have at times struggled to compete at the top table. That said we can take several positives from the experience and will no doubt come back stronger.

The thirds and fourths have again developed our younger talent within the club and these will push towards our Bradford League sides next year. Both will better their 2018 finishing positions this year.

Just a pointer to Sunday and the first in what we hope is an annual match for the Hegger's Cup, we will be playing Saltaire from 2pm at Jenny Lane in memory of Simon Heginbotham.

If I don't see you this weekend then winter well.

Ash
