I can't believe the curtain comes down on another Bradford League season today - sorry All Rounder Bradford Cricket League !
It seems only five minutes ago that we were launching into the opening game and dreaming of another promotion.
That hasn't happened but encouragingly, and without word of exaggeration, if we had played in the first half of the season as we have played in the second, we would definitely have been in the mix to go up.
Our opponents today Methley have been up there all season along with Scholes and Wrenthorpe, yet we have beaten two of the three in recent weeks as well as Undercliffe, and deservedly so.
Consistency is something we all crave, but which can be infuriatingly elusive.
As you will be aware I tend to be able to get to only about half of the games due to work commitments (not that I am complaining) and I have enjoyed what I have seen.
Simon's batting has been a highlight with two outstanding centuries, Johnny has played some fine match winning innings and Mushy has done what Mushy does, take wickets at very little cost.
There have been cameos from Jack, a massive improvement in recent weeks from Ejaz, and notable contributions from the supporting cast, notably Darren at Yeadon.
Waqas was a disappointment compared with his previous stint with the club, but overall I think finishing sixth, as we are bound to do no matter what today's outcome, is a terrific achievement after a not too promising beginning.
Next season will see a renewal of rivalries with Pudsey Congs and Hartshead Moor, we almost welcomed back East Bierley and Cleckheaton as well, so I'm already looking forward to meeting old friends.
I just hope the winter passes as quickly as this season has done. Thanks as always to our regular supporters, to those who work in the score box, provide the teas or serve behind the bar. We really appreciate your help.
Enjoy Christmas and the New Year and see you all back at Jenny Lane in April.
