Programme Notes – by Jamie Abbott
Hello and welcome to Jenny Lane for our fixture at home to table-toppers Scholes. We also play them this Tuesday evening in the 20 20 knockout cup so they’ll soon know the way to Baildon well!
There’s no hiding from the fact that it has been a disappointing start to the season for the 1st team. We’ve let winning positions slip in 3 of our 4 matches so we need to learn from those experiences to improve our results. There have been mitigating circumstances such as Jonny and Waqas missing 1 and 2 games respectively. However, despite that some good performances from others have made us competitive in each League match.
The batting has been good overall with a couple of obvious exceptions; you know who I mean! Mounam and Jonny have scored consistently with Jack showing some form too and let’s not forget Simon’s 1st century last week at Undercliffe.
The bowling has not been as good as usual thus far but we have proven performers in this discipline who, undoubtedly will bowl better soon.
In brighter news, the 2nd team have won their last 3 League matches and the captaincy is clearly inspiring Mini as he’s got loads of wickets so far. Keep it going!
Some more very encouraging news is that our U15s and U13s sit top of their Leagues and I’m reliably informed that we have more players registered to our Junior section that any other club in the League. This is a credit to the patient work of the many helpers involved.
Just a reminder that there’s a number of fundraising events in the next month or so, please ask any Committee member about them:-
June 6th, Golf Day
June 12th 100 Club Draw, 1st prize £250, 2nd prize £75
June 23rd/24th Beer Festival
Other topical news is that Ashley Free has taken on 2 extra roles recently. He’s resumed his role as 3rd team skipper after the previous incumbent quit after only a few games. Perhaps more interesting to our members is his appointment as Chairman of the club at this week’s Committee meeting. He needs everyone’s support and think not what the Club can do for you but what you can do for the Club!
Enjoy the match!
