Weekend Review 13th May

A great win for the 1s while our other teams struggled on Saturday. The 4th team back up on Sunday with a dominant win over Leeds Gladiators

Saturday 13th

Baildon 1st XI v Birstall 1st XI - Baildon win by 18 runs

Match Day sponsor: Cafe Nine

A strong all-round performance from our 1st team as they posted 170 batting first against Birstall. After seeing off a tidy opening spell it was James Ford (60) and Jonny Reynolds (50) in the runs this week, Jonny in particular upping the run rate as his half-century came from 58 balls. When it came to bowl it was Jamin Barron-Toop who really stepped up the the plate. He took 2 wickets in his second over to leave Birstall reeling at 12-2. After building back to 72 runs it was Kevin McDermott who opened the door back up. When Jamin came back on for his second spell he blew the middle order away taking 4 wickets in 4 overs leaving Birstall all out for 152. He ended up with figures of 6-29 from his 11 overs and looks to be hitting his straps now.

Townville 2nd XI v Baildon 2nd XI - Townville win by 1 wicket

Match Day sponsor: Stefan Mather

The 2s turned up to Townville to see a pitch that looked to have been left uncovered for last week's rain. After losing the toss and being put into bat it was a real struggle to make runs. Sam Wilkinson made a very useful 25 early on, taking the attack back to the Townville bowlers. It was Stefan Mather who posted the key runs scoring a run a ball 61. Haris Hussain also didn't let the bowlers settle as he counter-attacked with 42 batting with the lower order. Ending up with 162 on a track that seemed to be getting easier to bat on, it looked to be a tough ask to contain Townville. It came down to two important contributions from Townville as their opener and number 7 each made half centuries. Jamie Abbott took 5-34 and made sure the game came right down to the wire.

Baildon 3rd XI v Thornbury 2nd XI - Thornbury win by 67 runs

The 3s ended up the wrong side of what is usually a close-fought contest against Thornbury. After being invited to bowl first, we kept them to just 106 runs. Daniel Bell took 4-51 while Leo Smalley picked up 3-23 from his 11 overs. Will Baker bagged a brace while leaking just 6 runs from his 7 overs. When it came to bat, Thornbury always held the cosh over us, Tom Dixon the only batsman to make an impact as he scored 21 while the team were bowled out for just 39 runs.

Yorkshire LPS 2nd XI v Baildon 4th XI - Yorkshire LPS win by 85 runs

A frustrating day for the 4th XI as we struggled to get 11 players, taking 8 to Westwood Park to face Yorkshire LPS. Being asked to field first after losing the toss was a rough ask as LPS put on 230 in the first innings. Credit to the bowlers as they managed to take all 10 wickets. Tim Joy ending up with 5 and Jim Illingworth 4. A strong reply followed, led by Ben Fawkes who hit 61. However it was always going to be a big ask to chase that total with just 7 wickets.

Sunday 14th

Baildon 4th XI v Leeds Gladiators 2nd XI - Baildon win by 68 runs

A great response to come back after a tough day on the Saturday for all who played. Our juniors starred with bat and ball, Josh Hannan fell cruelly short of a half century scoring 47. Will Baker made 30 and Leo Smalley 22 to post a total of 165 all out. Lucas Shaw starred with the ball as we kept the Gladiators' response to 96.
