Weekend Preview - Saturday 24th of June

It's now just six days until Baildon Cricket Club Beer Festival 2023 gets under way - so this is the final call for any would be sponsors to get in touch asap. - please call James Butterfield on 07970026316 to get involved.

Jonny Reynolds - currently in the top 5 run scorers in our division

Today our 1st team make the long journey over to Wakefield to take on Sandal at their Barnsley Road ground. Last week's defeat of East Ardsley has brought us back in range of the teams in 7th and 8th position, so another win would see us put more daylight between ourselves and the dreaded relegation places. Batting first, another great knock from Jonny Reynolds (88 from 109 balls) along with support from Will Kelly (39) saw us post a challenging 219 which proved to be more than East Ardsley could cope with. Stefan Mather led the bowlers, putting a stranglehold on the middle order and finishing with the excellent figures of 4 for 24 from 13 overs.

Sandal away - meet at 11:30

Jamie Abbott - currently in the top 5 wicket takers in the second team's league

Brighouse are the visitors to Jenny Lane this weekend, taking on our 2nd team who will be eager to get back to winning ways after tasting defeat at East Ardsley last time out. On a typical deteriorating Ardsley wicket, we let them get too many runs batting first and were up against it in the second half as the inconsistent bounce came more to the fore. Haris top scored with a defiant 30 but in a chase of 230, we needed a bit more from our batters. In all our teams this year bowlers have been leading the way - so it's time for our batters to start putting a marker down and make the sort of scores that win games. It's very hard to know what to expect from a Brighouse team that have conceded three of the nine league games they've had so far this season. Jamie Abbott, who from now on shall be known by his new nickname 'The Sheep' (it's the Baildon version of 'The Goat'), returns to second team action after his sabbatical in the ones last week. Although he didn't bowl, the good vibes he gave out, in the style of Bez from the Happy Mondays, surely had a positive effect on Kev's side.

Sam Miller - 4 for 19 inc hat-trick against Muff Field

In a rare occurrence for this season, last week's 3rd team game didn't finish at 8pm as we ran out winners in a quick game against a weakened Muff Field side. Sam Miller (Steam Train) stormed in and claimed a hat-trick amongst figures of 4-19, with Leo Smalley (2 for 0) and Danny Bell (2 for 3) also contributing. Sam has led the attack with growing confidence this season and deserved a haul of wickets after bowling a number of tight spells without much reward. Tougher opposition lies ahead today though with Cookridge coming into the match on a run of back to back victories. We'll have four members of our under 15 side in the team today (with another 3 in the 4th team) as we continue to blend youth with grizzled experience in the threes!

Cookridge away - meet at 12:30

We've now reached the point of the season where the fourth team gets harder and harder to select - contact books, phonecalls, e-mails, faxes, smoke signals and telegrams are all being worn out by the hard working team behind the scenes that bring everything together. If you don't already do so - please, please, please mark your availability in the Whole Club Whatsapp group as early in the week as you can. Even if you're not available - it makes the job of the selection team so much easier. We'd love to be able to publish the teams earlier in the week but on an average game week we don't end up being able to finalise things until about 7:30 on a Friday! As yet, the full details of last week's game are yet to be published on line - so all I can tell you is we lost! IPL franchise Leeds Super Kings are the visitors to the Belmont Superdome today as teenage tearaway fast bowler Toby Allerton returns to 4th team action, hoping to terrorise the opposition batters and test out the middle of Andy Norton's wicket. Toby's elder brother Lucas will be looking to add to his debut senior 50 he hit in his last 4th team game.

Leeds Super Kings @ Sandal Primary - meet at 12:15

Andy Norton (C), Tim Joy, Toby Allerton, Lucas Allerton, Leela Modhwadia, Finlay McCaul, Ben Fawkes (WK), Yasir Malik, Fran Raper, Ash Free, Rakesh Kumar
