URGENT - Crowdfunding appeal to buy a new heavy roller

Updated: Apr 6, 2021

UPDATE - THE APPEAL CURRENTLY STANDS AT £745 THANKS TO DONATIONS FROM OVER 29 DIFFERENT SUPPORTERS! WE CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY. THAT MEANS THAT WE HAVE REACHED 49% OF OUR TARGET. PLEASE KEEP SPREADING THE WORD AND HELP US REACH OUR TARGET OF £1,500

Third team skipper Dave Hodgson has today launched a crowdfunding appeal to raise £1,500 towards the purchase of a new roller for our third/fourth team pitch.

A combination of Baildon and Baildon Meths teams have played cricket at Belmont / Sandals school for more than 50 years. In that time we've only had two heavy rollers at the ground. The first was a gigantic, hand pulled, gang roller which required the whole team's effort to pull it up and down the pitch. After that we moved on to a refurbished, vintage mechanised roller that had laid dormant at Jenny Lane for a number of years before Pete Brook (sadly no longer with us) and Bernard Greaves brought it back to life. The repair work took place in my parent's garage and I still fondly remember the roller rattling along the road from Hazelheads to West Lane at 3mph!

Despite the best efforts of our mechanical magician, Graham Chester, the roller has rolled it's last wicket and we now need to look to the future. Our third and fourth teams play at Belmont / Sandal and as they are made up of a large number of our younger players, it is imperative that we provide with them the safest, most consistent wickets possible. We can only do this with a heavy roller so we need to act now to ensure we look after our stars of the future when they are making their way into senior cricket. We've been saving up for a while now in anticipation of the roller being condemned - although a brand new roller costs in excess of £10,000, we hope to purhcase a second hand/ refurbished model for around £3-4,000. To get us over the line, our crowd funding appeal has a target of £1,500.

If you are able to dip your hand in your pocket and help us at this crucial time, you will help us continue to provide cricket for more than 60 adults and over 100 juniors in Baildon for another 50 years. Please click on the link below and donate what you can. Thank you.
