Get to know: Joel Newlove

Our Director of Cricket, Darren Wilson has done a Q&A with young all-rounder Joel Newlove. Joel joined in on the outstanding ton-scoring record of our first team least year in the T20 cup against Keighley and is a real asset in the field. We're looking forward to seeing his contribution this year.

Joel is generously sponsored by The Wilde Sheep Company in 2023. They are a Yorkshire family business with a combined 90 years’ experience working in the British wool industry. They produce high quality sustainable wool clothing and home furnishings.

Q: Hello, how are you doing? Have you done anything interesting over the winter?

Joel: Yeah, I’m great, thanks. I’m in the second year of my sport and exercise course at Durham University so I’m busy cracking on with that.

Q: Durham? That must be great for your development from a cricketing point of view?

Joel: Yes, it is. Having the opportunity to work in first class facilities with some of best coaches around has definitely helped me to develop my cricket. I’m hoping that my development over the winter will help me really kick on for Baildon next year with both bat and ball.

Q: So next year will be your second year with us, what would you say is your favourite part about our club and why? And how does the cricket you see at Baildon differ from what you played in at Guiseley?

Joel: Playing with a great group of lads, it’s a really welcoming club which was always nice and helped me ease into it when I first joined. And cricket wise the standard is noticeably better with quality players throughout all the teams in the league

Q: What are both your aims and ambitions for next season?

Joel: Personal aims would probably be to play my part with both bat and ball and really try to be a contributing factor to the teams success over the next season.

We still have opportunities to sponsor players in 2023 so if any business or individuals are interesting in contributing to the club in this way then please get in touch.
