Matchday notes - Saturday 25th May vs Wakefield St Michael's

Club chairman Ashley Free previews this weekends action:

Good afternoon and welcome to our visitors Wakefield St Michael's who after a slow start to the season caused a bit of a surprise last week when comfortably defeating Gomersal. That victory shows that there will be no pushovers in the league this year.

Last week saw us complete an impressive victory over Pudsey Congs which cemented our place towards the top of the division. Despite the best efforts of our former opener James Ford and yet another top order collapse we came out comfortable victors against a side who like us will be wanting to fight things out at the top of the table.

It's been very good to see the character of the side's recovery from bad starts with the bat with the obvious batting standout being Simon Bailey who has rediscovered the form he showed 2 years ago. That said others have also contributed and Blair Oakley was unlucky not to complete a maiden club century against Batley.

Given this inconsistency the fact we have won 3 of our first 5 games shows how strong we are capable of being this year. The bowling looks strong with Blair, Bails and Mushtaq Ahmed all in the wickets so far and I'm sure that opening paceman Haris Mohammed will soon find his feet.

It was sad to see that our new wicket keeper Louie Stronach had to return to his native Norwich after just 3 games but this has given Mounam Ejaz an opportunity to come back into the side who as we know can be explosive with the bat in the lower middle order.

In other club news it was great to see Will Kelly complete his maiden Bradford League senior fifty last week against Pudsey Congs for the seconds whilst all of our junior sides are in the habit of winning with several being selected to play representative cricket.

Don't forget the golf day on Tuesday 11th June before our big annual fundraiser the Beer & Gin Festival which is running from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd June.

Good luck to all 4 senior sides today.
