We get two for the price of one as first team skipper Jonny Reynolds gives his thoughts ahead of this weekends opening double header:
Here we are again, the start of another cricket season! The first XI are thrust into the action with a double header starting out against Ossett on Saturday and Batley on Sunday, both of which are at Jenny Lane.
I am fully expecting two tough games to kick off the season but I feel if the new look Baildon team perform well we will come out on top. I say new look because the off season has been a busy one, in the first team alone we have signed no less than 5 new players; Will Grace from Bradford & Bingley, a young and talented opening batsman who loves a chat; Dwayne Heke from Leeds Modernians, a hard hitting middle order batsman and reluctant bowler; Mo Khuzaifa from Dacre Banks, a talented batsman who swings the ball both ways; Louie Stronach from Rodley, a wicketkeeper batsman who will come in the lower order and give the ball a whack; and last but by no means least Haris Mohammed, a pacey left arm opening bowler coming from Horsforth. We are pleased to have also secured our overseas Blair for a second season and I’m excited to see him build on his strong debut last year both on and off the pitch. If you add to this the vast amount of quality and experience in the rest of the team it makes for an exciting season. All in all, despite the changes in personel this is one of the strongest teams I’ve seen at Baildon in years and has all the tools to beat any team in the league. Therefore, credit should go to the team of people behind the scenes for the effort they’ve put in to strengthen not only the first team but supporting the growth of all the teams at Baildon. Finally I’d like to say good luck to all the Baildon teams in action this weekend and I’ll see you all in the clubhouse after the game for a drink. Jonny 1st XI Captain
