Good afternoon and welcome to Jenny Lane for this crucial encounter against Ossett. Results in recent weeks means we are dangerously close to the drop zone and something that we have to correct quickly.
This afternoon we welcome back two former players in Harvey Anderson and Ian Philliskirk. Harvey spent a season with the club back in 2015 and was reliable at the top of the order before moving on. ‘Silla’ is and always will be a Baildon legend having guided us to the Division One title in 2009. That summer was one of the best in our history and we can only hope to recapture those days of success again in the future.
Jonny Reynolds (who along with Mushtaq Ahmed is a survivor of the title success of 2009) is back leading the side again in the absence of soon to be dad Jack Hainsworth.
Injuries and faltering availability has seen us lose momentum in recent weeks but today (barring Jack) we are at full strength and a win should hopefully see us start to go on a decent run for the rest of the season.
I’ve been disappointed to see that after such a promising start that the season has fallen away, we certainly have the talent within the squad but for one reason or another we haven’t been able to win consistently. As a club we are looking at the longer term picture so whilst the squad may not be good enough to go up this season we are striving to develop our existing players as well as attract others to join the club to get us to that level in future years.
In other news the second team are flying high in Championship One and are looking forward to a now home time against Bowling Old Lane on Sunday 5th August in the semi-final of the Priestley Shield. I hope you can come along and support the boys for that one.
