Hello and a warm welcome to Jenny Lane for this week's clash vs Undercliffe. I'm sure you'll all agree that this prolonged spell of good weather is making the season more enjoyable than ever, and the ground is in fantastic condition, something that groundsman Chris Reynolds has worked hard to achieve.
There is no doubt that today's visit of Undercliffe will provide a very stiff challenge for the team, giventhat the visitors currently occupy top position and arrive on the back of a fantastic back to the wall win last week vs Wrenthorpe.
Undercliffe have assembled a team that had them down as many people's favourites to go up, and so far they're living up to that billing. They have proven performers in the likes of Fahid Rehman and overseas Khalid Usman who joined the club from Ossett. In the bowling department they have someone in Zeeshan Qasim who consistently performs with the ball, but last week also showed he is more than a handy batsman.
On a personal level it is always disappointing to be missing out against some old foes but it might keep the 'stand up Darren' jibes at bay for another year.
We as Baildon have aspirations of our own, and in my opinion have performed admirably this year given that Captain Jonny Reynolds has yet to play whilst fit, and Mushtaq Ahmed has had to deal with a family bereavement, and our condolences go out to him and his family. Stand in skipper Jack Hainsworth has led the team excellently, leading from the front with the bat, but also dealing well with all the other unenviable tasks that come with captaincy. Brett Kinsey has stepped up and taken his chance in other people's absence and continues to perform for the side. If everyone from Baildon performs to their potential there is no reason why we can't beat anyone in the league.
On a final note I'd just like to thank everyone who attended and assisted at the beer and gin festival. I'm sure everyone will agree it was our most successful to date, and drew in a more diverse crowd than previous years, and we hope to build on this for years to come.
