Programme Notes vs Hunslet Nelson - Saturday 23rd June

Today we welcome Hunslet Nelson to Jenny Lane for what is an important game for both clubs.

After a promising start to the season, we have faltered in the last couple of matches not being able to score the 212 necessary against Batley or 214 the previous week to beat Hartshead Moor.

We would have hoped to have gained useful points against both clubs prior to the games. However, there were good performances from Brett (5 for 50) and & Simon & Hamzah who both scored 50’s.

Let us hope that today, both batters & bowlers commit for the full game in giving 100% for the club & I have no doubt that we can get the required result.

Hunslet Nelson will be disappointed with their early form having won 2 of their 8 games so far, but, they should not be underestimated.

I have seen a lot of the 2nd team this season & they are currently 3rd in the League with a realistic chance of promotion to the Premier Division – Second Teams.

This year the experienced players, Jamie, James, Darren & Ross have been performing well, but most encouraging that some of the younger players, Danny, Seif, Adnan & Will have looked really promising with some really good performances - which augers well for the future.

This weekend sees the 2nd team play at Woodlands in the 3rd round of the Priestley Shield/Woodlands are the current holders of the Shield & at the moment are riding high, top of the 2nd team Premier League – so a challenging tie for us !

This weekend is a big week for the Club with the Beer & Gin Festival and this year has special significance with the tragic loss of Simon.

A tremendous effort has been made by the Club in advertising the event & credit to Chairman, Ashley Free,ex Chairman James Butterfield & all other Committee Members – let us hope that all their effort results in a huge success. The event runs, Friday, Saturday & Sunday – so plenty of opportunity to test the Beers & Gins !

This event follows the Golf Day earlier in the month & thanks due to Bob Reynolds & the Committee for another successful Fund Raising venture.

Let us hope for a good match today & a truly wonderful weekend.
