Programme Notes vs Gomersal - Saturday 26th May

A big welcome for today’s visit to Jenny Lane to our visitors Gomersal and their supporters.

As things stand at this early stage of the season Gomersal sit just behind us in the table in 5th place so a good game should be on the cards.

Gomersal have in their ranks capable match winners in the likes of Jonathan Boynton and on his day a destructive Joe Seddon, as we found out in the same fixture last year at Jenny Lane as he hit a quickfire 50 to win the game for them. As well as the 2 mentioned they have others capable of putting in big performances and are a strong unit.

Hopefully we can reverse last year’s result as we are at present in a good run of form ourselves.

This was shown last week away at Ossett as we was involved in a rare tied game. Chasing 233 we reached the same total as the home side thanks to a first century for the club by acting skipper Jack Hainsworth who seems to be not affected by the added pressures that it brings and is doing a great job while Johnny Reynolds remains on the sidelines.

Even though he could not get us over the line it was a great effort by him and let’s hope his good form continues.

Apart from Jack’s performance on Saturday there have been encouraging signs so far from Hamza Iqbal that he will contribute runs. Hopefully until we get Johnny back fit and ready others will step up to the plate with the bat.

On the bowling side Overseas Blair Oakley and Ijaz Ahmed have struck up a good opening bowling partnership and look good. Mushy still continues to weave his magic and still remains one of the best spinners in the league if not the best. With Brett Kinsey, Simon Bailey and also Hamza to turn to then we have plenty of options in the bowling department.

With the weather still remaining good (apart from Friday!) then Saturday’s game should be a scorcher hopefully on the field and for the crowd so enjoy both the cricket and the sun.
