Hello and a warm welcome to Jenny Lane for the penultimate home game of the season for the first team.
Today we welcome Birstall who unfortunately look like they need snookers to survive. However, it must be pointed out that they have been competitive in most games, including against us earlier in the season when they reduced us to 20 for 3, and put us under real pressure.
It was a welcome boost to get a win last week after a disappointing performance the week before against Gomersal. The win last week included a fantastic 100 from Simon Bailey, his 2nd of the season. It also carried on what has been an excellent run of form for the team in the 2nd half of the season, including beating three of the top four teams.
Today’s game is the last one as captain for Simon as he goes for a shoulder operation next week. Being captain is never an easy job and Simon has had four years in charge, and has done a good job in some challenging circumstances, including recently with players missing through injury and Waqas returning home to Pakistan. This season he has also had a very good season personally and will hope to finish with 600 runs. We wish him well for his operation and hope to see him back to full fitness next year in a Baildon shirt.
There will be a change at the top next year with Jonny Reynolds agreeing to be captain, assisted by Jack Hainsworth. Jonny has been at the club since birth and should prove to be a very able skipper.
As he will soon find out, the hard work starts now.
Enjoy the game.
