Programme Notes - Saturday 19th August vs Gomersal

A warm welcome to today's opponents and supporters of Gomersal for this mid-table clash at Jenny Lane. With the season drawing to an end, both teams will want to finish as high as possible. At the moment we are in 6th position with Gomersal just below us in 7th place so today’s game is a big game for both clubs.

When these 2 teams last met away at Gomersal in early June it was a close encounter with Gomersal winning by only 9 runs .Hopefully today the result will go our way and we can continue a 4 game unbeaten run which includes a very impressive win last Saturday against title chasing Methley away. Notable performances last week came from the bowling of Mushy with 4 wickets, Jack Hainsworth scoring his second 50 of the season and a rapid 41 from Mounan Ejaz who continues his rich vein of form. A special mention also for Ijaz Ahmed and Dan Atkinson who saw us over the finishing line with a last wicket stand of 20 to take us past the home teams score of 175.

Today's opponents Gomersal have in their ranks very useful cricketers who on their day can be a handful. Amongst these they have Graham Hilton who is a consistent opening batter who has normally scored runs against us in the past. Richie Wear is another who on his day can be a match winner with both bat and ball, but they are a strong unit with others also capable of chipping in

with wickets and runs.

As well as the good form showed by the 1st team in the past week, the 2nd team continue to win and are at this point of writing only a few points off a promotion spot .It will be an interesting end to the season for them as they are in the mix with at least 4 other teams capable of going up. They also won last Saturday at home to Brighouse with a rare double hat-trick for our bowler's. Both Danny Hunt who keeps impressing for the 2s as opening bowler and the evergreen Jaime Abbott who bamboozled them with his spin achieved this feat, well done.

On to a different matter besides today's game. A big congratulations must go to Dominc Kelly and the junior section for hosting the under 13s cup final at Jenny Lane which Pudsey St Lawrence won. Also the junior section at our club seems to be improving every year which can only be a good thing for the future of Baildon CC. I hope you all enjoy today's game and we can celebrate another win.
